Rome, 31 July 2026 – A century of history and passion takes shape in a new issue of the 2026 Italian Republic Numismatic Collection. The €5 coin dedicated to the centenary of SSC Napoli pays tribute to one of the most beloved and iconic clubs in Italian football, transforming a historic anniversary into an object destined to preserve its memory over time.

Struck in silver and produced with a Proof finish, the coin celebrates the deep bond between the team and the city that shares its name, colours and identity. This new coin tells the story of a century of sporting achievements and collective belonging, encapsulating in just a few centimetres of precious metal the symbolic strength of a journey that began in 1926 and now reaches its hundredth anniversary.

The obverse features the official SSC Napoli crest, enhanced with coloured elements that highlight its immediate recognisability. The dates “1926” and “2026”, positioned on either side of the composition, symbolically mark the club’s century of history.

The reverse presents a symbolic view of the city of Naples, dominated by the unmistakable profile of Mount Vesuvius. In the foreground stands the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium, a place of sport and emotion that has become one of the club’s most significant symbols and a testament to its extraordinary relationship with supporters. Together, these elements create a visual dialogue between the city and the club, illustrating the unbreakable bond that has united Napoli and its territory for one hundred years.

The €5 coin “100th Anniversary of the Foundation of SSC Napoli”, issued by the Ministry of Economy and Finance, was designed by engraver Silvia Petrassi and minted by the Italian State Mint (Zecca dello Stato).

TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION

Obverse: At the centre is the official crest of the football club. The inscription “REPUBBLICA ITALIANA” appears along the upper edge, while the inscription “SSC NAPOLI” appears along the lower edge. The dates “1926” and “2026”, representing the club’s year of foundation and the year of the coin’s issue respectively, are positioned on the left and right sides. Coin with coloured elements.

Reverse: In the foreground is a view of the city of Naples featuring Mount Vesuvius and the Maradona Stadium. At the top are the denomination “5 EURO” and the “R” mintmark identifying the Rome Mint. At the bottom appears the designer’s signature, “PETRASSI”.
