One Hundred Years Under the Sign of the Lily
Rome, 28 August 2026 – A century of sporting history, belonging and passion for the purple colours is celebrated through the new €5 coin dedicated to the centenary of ACF Fiorentina, one of the highlights of the 2026 Numismatic Collection of the Italian Republic. This issue pays tribute to one of the most iconic clubs in Italian football, deeply rooted in the city of Florence and its cultural identity.
Struck in silver and issued in Proof quality, the coin celebrates one hundred years of tradition, reflecting the close connection between sport and history and highlighting the enduring bond between the team and the territory that has accompanied its journey from 1926 to the present day.
The obverse features the lily, the distinctive symbol of Fiorentina and, at the same time, the historic emblem of the city of Florence. Enhanced with coloured elements, the design immediately evokes the club’s identity and its strong ties to the Tuscan capital.
The reverse presents an evocative view of Florence, a city of art and culture, depicted with its unmistakable architectural skyline beneath a cloud-filled sky. The composition creates a dialogue between the city’s cultural heritage and the club’s sporting tradition, underscoring how the purple lily has become one of the most recognisable symbols of Florentine identity, both in Italy and abroad.
The €5 coin “100th Anniversary of the Foundation of ACF Fiorentina”, issued by the Ministry of Economy and Finance, was designed by engraver Silvia Petrassi and struck by the Italian State Mint.
