"Cornetto Algida" Collector Coin Issued in the 2026 Numismatic Collection
The 2026 Numismatic Collection is enriched with a new 1.5 euro coin dedicated to the Cornetto Algida, an icon of Italian summer taste
May 21, 2026 – Italian summer joins the 2026 Numismatic Collection with a new €1.50 coin dedicated to the Algida Cornetto, a symbol of popular culture and one of the most iconic tastes of the Italian summer. Struck in 999‰ silver, the coin is part of the “Italian Excellence” series and celebrates one of the most recognizable products of contemporary Made in Italy.
Issued by the Ministry of Economy and Finance and minted by the Istituto Poligrafico e Zecca dello Stato, the coin faithfully reproduces the famous ice cream cone in remarkable detail, from the wafer cone and creamy topping to its signature cocoa tip. The obverse features the lower part of the product together with the institutional and identifying elements of the coin, while the reverse presents a colourful representation of its upper section.
Through this new issue, the “Italian Excellence” series continues to celebrate symbols of Italian creativity, bringing together numismatic tradition and contemporary culture. Designed by engraver Emanuele Ferretti and produced at the State Mint’s workshops, the coin highlights how numismatics can also pay tribute to the everyday icons that have become part of Italy’s shared cultural heritage.
