The 2025 Numismatic Collection Pays Tribute to Bellini's Norma and La Scala Theatre

The distinctive-shaped coin to celebrate opera and architecture issued by MEF, presented on the day of the Prima in Milan

A tribute to Italian opera and, in particular, to Norma, Vincenzo Bellini’s timeless masterpiece, through a numismatic representation of one of the world’s most prestigious venues where it has been performed: Milan’s Teatro alla Scala.

It was at Teatro alla Scala that Norma premiered in 1831, performed by the extraordinary soprano Giuditta Pasta, who is depicted on the reverse based on a portrait by François Gérard, framed by a decorative nineteenth-century-style border.

This coin celebrates a landmark work of the Italian operatic tradition and pays homage to the artistic heritage that continues to make Italy a global reference point for culture and music.
