From Table to Coin: Italian Cuisine Celebrated in the 2026 Numismatic Collection
An extraordinary issue celebrating one of the most beloved symbols of Italian identity.
Rome, 5 June 2026 – Italian Cuisine joins the Numismatic Collection of the Italian Republic with a special €5 silver coin dedicated to its recognition by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. The issue celebrates the cultural, social, and identity-defining value of Italy’s gastronomic tradition, a symbol of excellence recognized around the world.
Produced by the Istituto Poligrafico e Zecca dello Stato on behalf of the Ministry of Economy and Finance, the coin features Italia Turrita with the Italian Tricolour on the obverse, while the reverse displays the official logo of the Italian Cuisine UNESCO candidature.
Designed by engraver Silvia Petrassi and struck in 925‰ silver with coloured elements, the coin pays tribute to a heritage of knowledge, traditions, and conviviality that has shaped Italian culture and strengthened the country's image worldwide.
